This Master’s Thesis documents the epistemological, curricular and didactic foundations necessary for the creation of a didactic unit. The unit is entitled “Matrix and applications” and it is designed for the 2nd year of the bachelor of Science and Technology course of the subject Mathematics II. It has been designed following the LOMLOE (Organic Law that modifies the LOE of 2006) regulation. Previously, the subject matter in consideration has been studied deeply by developing a state exam and by analyzing two school textbooks in order to choose the one which fits best. Several didactic research studies are analyzed. In the didactic unit, the aim is that students learn what matrix are and how to opérate with them, and that they are able to establish the relationship between the knowledge learnt and everyday life thanks to the learning situation in order to make sense of Mathematics.
