It is such important that the United Nations (UN) considers it a sustainable development goal itself (number 13), which also influences other of these goals. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) periodically develops reports with the most up-to-date information about this topic. To achieve a favorable climate scenario, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions must be greatly reduced. To accomplish this task, there are several climate change mitigation and adaptation mechanisms, including carbon capture techniques. Olives are the most important woody crop in Spain, having special relevance in Andalusia. Climate change can cause many negative effects on this crop; however, it also has great potential to create ecosystems that reduce the carbon footprint. This footprint along with carbon credits make up the greatest tools to achieve a sustainable future.
