trabajo.
The present study analysed the relation of emotional intelligence (EI) on burnout and coping skills by controlling personality factors in a sample of nurses. Thus, one hundred nurses answered the following instruments: an EI test (WLEISS), a burnout questionnaire (COPE) and the Big Five personality inventory. The results found negative relations between EI components and burnout components, that’s to say, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Also, negative relations were found between the four components of EI and the components of passive coping skills, as well as positive relations between the components of EI and the components of active coping skills. Hierarchical regression analysis about the dimensions of burnout showed that the components of EI were predictors of these variables explaining part of its variance. Likewise, the components of EI explained part of the coping skills variance. The results and implications of this study are explained in the current project.
