THE USE OF L1 IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

Abstract

(ES)Estudio comparativo sobre el uso del español (L1) como medio para la enseñanza de vocabulario en inglés (L2) realizado a un total de 10 estudiantes cursando un nivel intermedio (B1) según el CEFR. Se han analizado los resultados obtenidos por los alumnos tras haber recibido instrucción sobre 60 términos en inglés: 30 términos usando definiciones en inglés y 30 términos con definiciones en inglés y su traducción al español. Es estudio incluye el análisis del tipo de palabra (adjetivos, nombres y verbos), el conocimiento productivo y receptivo y el conocimiento a corto y largo plazo.

(EN)Comparative study of Spanish language use (L1) for English vocabulary teaching (L2) carried out to a total of 10 students studying at an intermediate level (B1) according to CEFR. Students were taught 60 English terms under two different conditions: 30 terms using English definitions and 30 terms with English definitions and Spanish translation. The results obtained include the analysis of the type of

speech (adjectives, nouns and verbs), the productive and receptive knowledge and immediate and long- term knowledge.
