The following ex post facto study attempts to analyze the presence of grief and which variables are related to the intensity of grief after the loss of a pet in the Spanish population. For this purpose, a cross- sectional survey was carried out with a total sample of 165 respondents, who were over 18 years of age (M = 32.2; SD = 10.73) and had lost a pet at some point in their lives. It is of great interest to investigate this field due to the almost null bibliography found in Spain. The results obtained from this research show that 20% of the sample experienced a high intensity of grief at the loss of a pet. In addition, the results indicate a relationship between the intensity of grief and the variables of gender, attachment to the pet, perceived social support, continuing bonds, etc. (p < .05)
