The Turn of the Screw is one of the most relevant and influential ghost stories ever written that was born from the hand of Henry James. It is an ambiguous novella that is dramatically affected by the reader’s interaction with the narrative gap. Our purpose in this work is to humbly try to analyse the materializations of the alleged ghosts in the search of the elements that give this massive work part of its controversial nature. Therefore, we will immerse ourselves in the enigmatic society of Bly to listen to the deafening silence of vague words and suppositions that influence the reader’s whole interpretation of the work. However, the analysis will not address the totality of the novella, but will focus only on the specific moments of phantasmagorical projections. Language, antecedents, imagery and power relations among other factors will be examined to provide an insight on the record of the nebulous manuscript.
