[EN]Recent results show an alarming decrease in motivation for science learning having a negative impact on academic achievement and the number of students who choose scientific careers, what threatens knowledge-based societies. There is evidence of the influence that teaching has on students’ interest and the learning being developed, and the specialized literature shows that even after long years of instruction, students keep their misconceptions and are unable to apply the knowledge acquired in academic settings today-to-day scenarios. These results reveal that pedagogies which consider students as passive receptors of information allow students to pass exams but do note quip them with long-term learning and the knowledge and skills necessary to explain the world around them and solve complex problems. However, the application of alternative pedagogies, such as co-operative learning and research-based learning, along with the consideration of learners’ prior ideas, has proved to be quite useful in the development of meaning full learning and the improvement of students’ motivation. As stated throughout this study, Nutrition is an issue, which presents some difficulties in the learning/teaching process. Therefore, a change in the methodology has been adopted to support students acquiring the necessary knowledge to deal with the Nutrition issue and apply it to their daily life.
