Resumen
[ES] El objetivo del presente estudio consistió en analizar la relación existente entre una alta o baja resistencia cardiorrespiratoria y la memoria y la autoestima. La muestra estaba formada por 252 alumnos y alumnas de Educación Infantil (136 niñas). La resistencia cardiorrespiratoria fue medida mediante la batería Fitness testing in Preschool children (PREFIT). Para evaluar la memoria se utilizó la adaptación española de las Escalas de Inteligencia de Reynolds (RIAS) y para la autoestima se utilizó el Cuestionario para la Evaluación de la Autoestima en la Infancia (EDINA). Los resultados muestran que la resistencia
cardiorrespiratoria alta se asocia positivamente con un nivel más alto de memoria (71,55 ± 12,63 vs.
68,70 ± 15,44; p = 0,073) y de autoestima (59,10 ± 3,55 vs. 58,00 ± 4,28; p = 0,626). Podemos concluir
que una mejora de la condición física y especialmente un mejor nivel de resistencia cardiorrespiratoria
en población infantil, se asocia con un mejor memoria y autoestima. Por ello se sugiere realizar actividad
física a diario.
[EN] The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between high or low cardiorespiratory endurance and memory and self-esteem. The sample consisted of 252 boys and girls from early childhood education (136 girls). Cardiorespiratory endurance was measured using the Fitness testing in Preschool children (PREFIT) battery. The Spanish adaptation of the Reynolds Intelligence Scales (RIAS) was used to assess memory, and the Childhood Self-Esteem Assessment Questionnaire (EDINA) was used for self-esteem. The results show that high cardiorespiratory endurance is positively associated with a higher level of memory (71,55 ± 12,63 vs. 68,70 ± 15,44; p = 0,073) and self-esteem (59,10 ± 3,55 vs. 58,00 ± 4,28; p = 0,626). We can conclude that an improvement in physical condition and especially a better level of cardiorespiratory resistance in children, is associated with better memory and self-esteem. Therefore, it is suggested to carry out physical activity daily.
