[ES]Esta investigación se centra en la adquisición de los tiempos del pasado del inglés de alumnos sinohablantes. En particular, los usos de los cuatro tiempos del pasado se comparan con sus equivalentes en chino con la jerarquía de dificultad (Prator, 1967; Brown, 2000). Concluimos que las diferencias son notables y la división ocurre con mayor frecuencia, lo cual significa que sinohablantes deben hacer nuevas distinciones en la adquisición de estos tiempos. En el análisis de errores, hemos identificado los tres tipos de errores más comunes: la selección errónea entre el presente y el pasado, la selección errónea entre el pasado simple y el presente perfecto, y la selección errónea entre aspectos simple y perfecto. La causa principal de errores es la interferencia de la lengua materna, aunque los errores intralinguales también son notables. Por último, hemos propuesto sugerencias y recomendaciones para la enseñanza de los tiempos del pasado para sinohablantes.
[EN]This study focuses on Chinese EFL learners’ acquisition of English past tenses. In particular, the uses of the four English past tenses are compared with their equivalents in Chinese in the contrastive study with the hierarchy of difficulty (Prator, 1967; Brown, 2000). We conclude that the differences are noticeable and split occurs most frequently, which means that Chinese EFL learners often need to make new distinctions in the acquisition of English past tenses. In the error analysis, we have identified three types of errors that are the most common among Chinese learners: misselection between present and past tenses, misselection between simple past and present perfect, and misselection between simple and perfect aspects. The main cause of errors is the interference from the L1, although the intralingual errors are also noticeable. Lastly, we have proposed suggestions and recommendations for the teaching and learning of English past tenses for Chinese speakers
