[EN]The goal of the present research is to make an appropriationist proposal of the Sonata for violoncello and piano in Re minor by Claude Debussy. Due to the fact that Debussy never wrote a work only for violoncello, this appropriationist act aims at reclaiming the role of the violoncello in the sonata, as a voice developed and rich enough to exist with autonomy. Appropriationism will be used as a methodology for the discovery of the composer’s life and work. This path will be argued and guided by the primary sources obtained from Debussy’s writings and by the philosophical contributions to the appropriationist practice. Moreover, from the point of view of the artistic activity, this research intends to offer a way of alternative knowledge towards the discovery of the work. By means of this exercise, a critique to the learning system applied in the conservatories will be carried out, as this system is tough and impervious to the cultural and social changes.
