[EN]The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of a 5 weeks combined training programme of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and sprint interval training (SIT) in the cardiovascular performance and the cardiac response in master endurance athletes. 27 recreational master athletes from different athletic clubs from Jaen were randomly selected into two groups: Control Group (n=13) and Experimental Group (n=14). There were measured before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention programme: Anthropometry, arterial pressure, Course-Navette test, resting heart rate, cardiac response post exercise and during the sleep time and training load. It was found significant differences in the cardiorespiratory performance: The EG improved in C-N test (p=0,028) and VO2max (p=0,048), with a significant decrease in the distance run by week and training time (p<0,01). Related to the cardiac response to the training, it were no significant differences between groups (p>0,05). KEY WORDS: master athletes, HIIT, SIT, athletics performance, cardiac response.
