The etiology of the syndrome is still unknown, exist different explanatory theories although none is completely accepted. It has now disappeared Asperger´s syndrome as a separate diagnostic category because in the recent DSM-V is included within the Autism Spectrum Disorders subcategory, which belongs to the category Neurodevelopmental Disorders. In this review we would like to emphasize the neuropsychological profile associated with the syndrome, and contribute with a detailed description of possible alterations in different cognitive areas among which are difficulties in the pragmatics of language and in the field of semantic and episodic memory deficits and working memory and alteration in selective attention and executive functions.
