El aspectismo es conocido como una forma de discriminación basada en la apariencia física de una persona, afectado a toda aquella que no se ajuste a los estándares de belleza aceptados y enfrentándose a los estereotipos y prejuicios. Estos estándares son promovidos por los medios de comunicación, la presión social y cultural. Adquiriendo el Trabajo social un papel crucial, para promover la igualdad y la no discriminación por el aspecto físico de la persona, además de concienciar a la sociedad sobre la diversidad corporal. Por otro lado, el apoyo hacia las personas vulnerables es fundamental durante todo el proceso de aceptación, debido a las consecuencias negativas que repercuten en la salud emocional y mental del individuo. Uno de los perfiles que sufren mayor discriminación son aquellas personas que sufren sobrepeso u obesidad, con motivo de no estar dentro de los cánones de belleza establecidos como correctos
