20th Century Málaga as Seen by English-Speaking Writers: A Comparison of Selected Works

Abstract

[ES]Este trabajo compara cinco obras de autores de habla inglesa que vivieron en la provincia de Málaga durante el siglo XX, con el objetivo de establecer las similitudes de dichas obras con las posteriores guías de viaje que empezarían a publicarse a partir de los años 60. Asimismo, el trabajo compara aspectos socioculturales que aparecen en las descripciones realizadas por los autores estudiados, así como la imagen que se describe de España a la comunidad de lectores angloparlantes.[EN]This dissertation compares five works from English-speaking writers who lived in the region of Málaga during the twentieth century, with the aim of establishing the similarities between these works and later travel guides which began to be published in the 60s. Likewise, the dissertation compares sociocultural aspects that appear in the descriptions made by the studied authors, as well as the image portrayed of Spain to the English-speaking community of readers.
