[EN] This work research the hippocampus fish in two different subject areas: the Mediterranean shore and the Mexican Pacific Ocean. Three different methods have been used in the carrying out of this research: dives, literature review, and survey design and implementation to technical divers working in each area from October, 2014 to June, 2015. As it was expected, the results show that H. Igens is found in the Mexican Pacific, while H. hippocampus and H. guttulatus have been observed in the whole Spanish subject area. As for the H. guttulatus, it has also been observed in all the three provinces but with a sighting frequency 10 times less than the common seahorse. The associated habitats have mainly been coral areas, Posidonia oceanica, sands, seaweeds and rocks. This research shows that standardized surveys are an useful tool and that, sometimes, they are indispensable for the monitoring of these under-known species.
