Abstract

Tras la Segunda Destrucción del Templo de Jerusalén en el año 70 d. C. por el emperador romano Tito, se produjo la segunda diáspora judía. La Península Ibérica fue uno de los lugares donde el pueblo hebreo se asentó tomando el nombre de Sefardíes. La judería de Jaén, una de las ciudades donde se instalaron tras su expulsión, ha sido considerada como una de las más grandes de España; en ella se han realizado varias intervenciones arqueológicas, las fuentes escritas son abundantes y de gran interés, así como los estudios realizados por distintos investigadores. A pesar de que los restos arqueológicos son escasos, su difusión, tanto académica como a través de instituciones y asociaciones, es considerable. Actualmente, la judería de Jaén forma parte de un amplio debate en el cual se intentan resolver varias cuestiones e incógnitas.

The second Jewish Diaspora took place after the second destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem by Roman Emperor Titus in the year 70AD. The Iberian Peninsula was one of the many places where Hebrew people stablished adopting the name of Sephardic. Jaen was one the cities where Jews settled after their banishment. Its Jewish Quarter is considered one of the biggest in Spain. Numerous archaeological interventions were performed in this country, in addition to this, there is a big volume of very interesting written sources and studies carried out by researchers. Despite of having a small amount of archaeological materials, these had been highly academically distributed through institutions and associations. At present, Jaen’s Jewish Quarter is part of a mass discussion where various questions are asked and the unknown is trying to be solved.
