The purpose of this Bachelor's Thesis is to conduct an analysis of the structural integrity of curved mechanical components using a numerical approach based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Specifically, the evolution of the stress intensity factor with the crack size will be analysed for two cylindrical specimens made of different materials and subjected to different mechanical loads and therefore fracture modes. To carry out this study, the commercial software Abaqus will be utilized, allowing for the simulation of the conditions to which the specimens are subjected. Consequently, a numerical analysis will be obtained, aiming to closely approximate reality. The potential scope of this study lies in its ability to extrapolate the findings to more complex geometries subjected to the same loading conditions, with the purpose of preventing failure or the growth of cracks.
