LA CARA OCULTA DEL ALZHEIMER. IMPACTO EN LAS CUIDADORAS DESDE LA PERSPECTIVA DE TRABAJO SOCIAL

Abstract

[ES] Nos encontramos en una sociedad caracterizada cada vez más por la vejez de la población. Esta etapa de la vida trae consigo problemas de salud y enfermedades que conllevan a un aumento del número de personas mayores en situación de dependencia. Una de las enfermedades que aparecen son las degenerativas, en este caso nos centraremos en la enfermedad de Alzheimer, la cual afecta a la capacidad cognitiva(comportamiento o memoria) además de a la movilidad presentando problemas cardiovasculares y deterioro del organismo. Dichas personas van perdiendo cada vez más sus facultades y escalando en las distintas fases de evolución de la enfermedad, conllevando no solo a un progresivo nivel de dependencia, sino también a una situación de impotencia en los familiarescuidadores, ante la imposibilidad de mejora del familiar. La enfermedad de Alzheimer, incurable hasta el momento, va desgastando no solo la vida del enfermo sino que también lo hace paralelamente con la persona encargada en el cuidado, que ve afectada su vida, relaciones sociales, trabajo, ocio… debido al exclusivo tiempo de atención que se requiere, visibilizar a la cara oculta de la enfermedad: la persona cuidadora.

[EN] We are in a society in which more and more by the aging of the population. This stage of life brings health problems and diseases that lead to an increase in the number of elderly people in a situation of dependence. One of the diseases that appear is the degenerative, in this case we will focus on Alzheimer's disease, which affects cognitive ability (behavior or memory) as well as mobility present in cardiovascular problems and deterioration of the body. Said people are increasingly losing their faculties and climbing at different phases of evolution of the disease, leads not only to a progressive level of dependency, but also to a situation of helplessness in the family-caregivers, faced with the impossibility of improvement in the disease. The Alzheimer´s disease, incurable so far, is eroding not only the life of the patient, but it also so in parallel with the family that affected his life, social relations, work, leisure… due to the exclusive care requiring.
