Resumen
El campo de la Inteligencia Emocional (IE) viene experimentando un gran desarrollo e impulso desde finales del siglo XX hasta nuestros días. En la práctica del Trabajo Social ha estado siempre presente dicha inteligencia en los ámbitos de intervención y prevención en la educación, en la salud, en la búsqueda de igualdad entre hombres y mujeres, combatiendo la violencia de género a través de programas emocionales en centros penitenciarios, con internos condenados por violencia de género. Se han desarrollado diferentes modelos teóricos, los cuales pueden clasificarse en modelos mixtos, entre los que destacan el de Bar-On y el de Goleman, y modelo de habilidades, como el modelo de Mayer y Salovey. Estos últimos fueron los que propusieron la definición de IE que a día de hoy es la más aceptada. En este trabajo se pretende recapitular la importancia de las emociones en el ser humano, las principales teorías sobre la IE y la importancia en el ámbito profesional del Trabajo Social.
