Resumen
El presente trabajo contextualiza el trabajo del poeta y dramaturgo inglés William Percy (1574 – 1648) y ofrece una edición crítica de su obra poética, que consiste en un único volumen de veinte sonetos titulado Sonnets to the Fairest Coelia, originalmente publicado en 1594. Además de esa primera edición, texto-base para este trabajo, otras cuatro ediciones han sido compiladas para crear una versión actualizada de dichos sonetos, informativa y accesible para el lector moderno. Al mismo tiempo, esta edición crítica tiene entre sus objetivos resaltar variaciones en el texto que son resultado de sus ediciones sucesivas para apreciar la importancia y el impacto del trabajo de edición de textos. Los veinte sonetos son presentados con un aparato que incluye información de naturaleza etimológica, histórica y sociocultural, en un ejercicio que pone en práctica el proceso y los procedimientos de edición de textos escritos en los comienzos del Inglés moderno.
The paper contextualizes the work of the English poet and playwright William Percy (1574 - 1648) and offers a critical edition of his poetry, which consists of a single volume of twenty sonnets entitled Sonnets to the Fairest Coelia, originally published in 1594. Besides the first edition, taken as the base text for this paper, four other known editions have been collated in order to create a version that is accessible and informative to the modern reader. At the same time, this critical edition aims at highlighting variations in the text that result from its consecutive reprints in order to appreciate the importance and impact of the work of textual edition. The twenty sonnets are presented alongside an apparatus that includes etymological, historical and sociocultural information, in an exercise to put into practice the process and procedures for editing early modern English texts.
