Contribución de la Geología al estudio de la Cueva de Nerja

Abstract

Este trabajo pone en valor la relación existente entre las disciplinas Arqueología y Geología. Para ello hemos tomado como objeto de estudio uno de los yacimientos más importantes del Mediterráneo occidental, la Cueva de Nerja (Málaga, España). De esta cavidad trataremos, por un lado, sus características geológicas, destacando los aspectos que la convierten en uno de los mejores ejemplos de geomorfología kárstica de España; y, por otro lado, los estudios arqueológicos desarrollados en la cavidad desde su descubrimiento, con especial atención al registro paleobiológico y antrópico. Ambas cuestiones son fundamentales para articular y comprender la prolongada ocupación humana de este espacio desde el Paleolítico Superior hasta la Edad del Bronce. Ocupación que coincide con sucesivos cambios climáticos acontecidos a lo largo del tiempo, un factor determinante en la evolución de los modos de vida de los grupos humanos que habitaron el lugar.

This work puts in value the relationship between the Archeology and Geology disciplines. For this we have taken as an object of study one of the most important sites in the western Mediterranean, the Cave of Nerja (Málaga, Spain). On the one hand, we will discuss its geological characteristics, highlighting the aspects that make it one of the best examples of karst geomorphology in Spain; and, on the other hand, the archaeological studies developed in the cavity since its discovery, with special attention to the paleobiological and anthropic record. Both questions are fundamental to articulate and understand the prolonged human occupation of this space from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age. Occupation that coincides with successive climatic changes that have occurred over time, a determining factor in the evolution of the ways of life of the human groups that inhabited the place.
