La relación del pesimismo defensivo con la ansiedad, el afecto, la depresión y los síntomas somáticos

Resumen
En la actualidad se entiende el pesimismo como algo negativo, pero en este estudio
hemos comprobado que el pesimismo defensivo puede ser una estrategia de afrontamiento
para que la persona no reduzca su rendimiento y protegerlo de la ansiedad. En esta
investigación se ha querido analizar de forma prospectiva-longitudinal las asociaciones del
pesimismo defensivo con variables como la ansiedad, depresión, diferentes síntomas
somáticos y el afecto negativo y positivo. Por esto, participaron 112 alumnos universitarios a
los que se les realizaron dos evaluaciones, al empezar la carrera y otra medición al finalizar la
carrera.
Los resultados mostraron que las personas que usan el pesimismo defensivo como una
estrategia de afrontamiento, después de 4 años, muestran relaciones significativas con los
niveles de ansiedad y el afecto negativo. Se sugiere que las personas que utilizan el pesimismo
defensivo ven el afecto negativo como una señal o motivación para utilizar dicha estrategia.
