A LEARNER CORPUS–BASED ANALYSIS OF B1 AND B2 LEARNERS’ USE OF ADJECTIVES IN TWO DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES

Abstract

[ES] El principal objetivo de este Trabajo Fin de Máster es describir el uso de adjetivos por parte de aprendices españoles de inglés en dos tipos de textos, en los niveles B1 y B2 del MCERL. El trabajo se divide en cuatro partes principales: la revisión de la literatura, que presenta los resultados derivados de investigaciones previas sobre el uso de adjetivos en corpus de aprendices y un marco teórico sobre los adjetivos en L1. En la segunda parte se explica la metodología utilizada en este estudio especificando el corpus utilizado, la anotación de la etiqueta POS y el proceso utilizado para recuperar los datos necesarios. La siguiente sección, se ocupa del análisis de los resultados teniendo en cuenta las preguntas de investigación. Para concluir el trabajo, se especifican las limitaciones del estudio, las posibles implicaciones para la enseñanza, y posibles ideas para futuras investigaciones.

[EN] The main aim of this MA Dissertation is to describe learners’ use of adjectives in two text types at B1 and B2 CEFR levels. The MA Dissertation is divided into four main parts: the literature review, which presents the results derived from previous studies on adjectives in learner corpora and a theoretical framework regarding L1 adjectives. The second part explains the methodology used to carry out this research outlining the data used, the POS-tag annotation process and the techniques used to retrieve the necessary data. Next, the results are discussed in relation to the research questions. The final section specifies the study's limitations, possible teaching implications, and possible further research ideas.
