In the present investigation, we study false memories in the recall and recognition of word lists that are highly associated with a non-presented critical word. The main objective would be to carry out a manipulation whose effect on false memories leads to different predictions in accordance with the Activation / Monitoring Theory and the Fuzzy Trace Theory, and, therefore, give empirical support to one or the other. The study was carried out with the use of a 2x3 intrasubject factorial design, whose dependent variable would be the percentage of recognition of the words that were presented in the recognition task. In the results, it was found that the recognition of the critical words was greater than that of the studied words, so there was false recognition and, therefore, empirical support is given to the Theory of the Fuzzy Trace.
