This final degree thesis looks into the role that linguistics play within the science fiction genre. This is, science fiction novels in which language plays an important and relevant role as a plot device through which the novel develops its world and story. In order to provide adequate support to this concept, we will pay attention to the conflicts and relationship between verbal elements and the fiction itself, subordinating these narratives to concepts such as Sapir-Whorf’s Linguistic Relativity, and Pierre Bourdieu’s Symbolic Power. This will place at the center of focus which are the human intentions for which language exists in this kind of novels and how linguistic structure and behaviors influence social structures and the process of thought within the selected science fiction novels.
