(EN) Despite being a language of the Germanic family, English draws a significant amount of lexical borrowings from languages derived from Latin. Through this project we will be looking at the origins of the English language, its initial formation, and, with special detail, how it came into contact with Romance languages and how they permeated its lexis, going into detail as to what languages contributed the most to it, singling out the cases of French and Latin, each making up an estimate of 30% of the language’s lexicon word origin. We will also be looking at why such cases took place to begin with, and whether or not it is affected by the “global” status of the English language.
