The objective of this study was to identify variables that explained the variability in the performance of a group of adolescent rhythmic gymnasts aged between 10 and 17 years, introducing emotional intelligence as a variable that had not been contemplated before. A total of 45 girls from different clubs in the province of Jaen participated, in which anthropometric, physical and psychological condition variables were measured, using specific equipment for the first two types and self-report measures for psychological ones. Performance was assessed using a subjective assessment scale completed by gymnasts and their trainers. The results show that the variables that are significantly associated with performance levels are anxiety and emotional attention in performance valued by gymnasts and attention and the emotional clarity in the performance valued by the trainers. Keywords: rhythmic gymnastics, anxiety, emotional intelligence, fitness, performance.
