The development of Intercultural Communicative Competence in ELT textbooks: A preliminary analysis of production activities.

(ES)El objetivo es examinar las actividades de producción que fomentan la competencia intercultural
comunicativa. Entonces, se requiere un estudio exhaustivo sobre la competencia comunicativa
intercultural y la forma en que los libros de texto trabajan este tema. Se realizará un estudio de casos en
el que se evaluará una serie completa de libros de texto de enseñanza de inglés de los cuatro cursos de
secundaria. También se hará una comparación con las actividades de recepción para ver cuáles son más
abundantes. La investigación se centrará en las actividades de producción y en cómo se desarrollan los
componentes de la competencia comunicativa intercultural, siguiendo el modelo de Byram (2021).
Finalmente, se descubrió que, en el desarrollo de los temas culturales, las actividades de producción
superan a las de recepción y que se desarrollan todos los componentes de la competencia comunicativa
intercultural de Byram (2021), pero también se hacen sugerencias de mejora.
(EN)The primary goal of this study is to examine production activities that foster intercultural communication skills. To accomplish so, extensive study on intercultural communication competence and how textbooks work on this topic is required first. Therefore, a case study will be done in which a complete series of English language teaching textbooks from the four years of secondary school will be evaluated. In this research on production activities, a comparison with receiving activities will be done to see which ones are more abundant. The research will concentrate on the activities of these textbooks' production and how the components of intercultural communicative competence are created, following Byram’s (2021) model. Finally, it was discovered that in the development of cultural themes, the production activities outnumber the reception activities and that all of the components of Byram’s (2021) model of intercultural communicative competence are developed, but suggestions for improvement are also made.
