"Social networks are the subject of the moment, among which Instagram stands out capable of turning users into referring people, idealize them and make them famous. Influencers have many characteristhics in common, they are attractive, have an athletic ideal and boast of life; that is, anyone constantly bombarded by this information would seek that lifestyle. The present work aims to study how this social network can affect the comparison and idealization of physical appearance in women; as well as, the influence of Instagram on self-esteem, impulsivity and body dissatisfaction. The participants were 31 women who were administered various assessment instruments. The results show significant positive correlations between continued exposure to Instagram and increased negative urgency; between the level of self-esteem and the number of followers and between craving by followers and the internalization of the athletic ideal. Regarding the idealization and comparison with influencers, we find significant positive correlations with the tendency to compare with more and less attractive people and with body insecurity. Based on these results, plans can be drawn up for the prevention, intervention or treatment of disorders, both those related to eating behavior and those related to the intensive use of social networks."
