The status of grammar has been the most controversial and polemic issue in foreign language teaching. With the passage of time, grammar has suffered many ups and downs in this area since while some methods have devoted a lot of attention to grammar, others have considered it as less important even reaching to its rejection. Therefore, a methodological review throughout the history of foreign language teaching will be made in order to examine the importance that each method gives to grammar and to determine how the conception of grammar has been changing throughout ages until it has reached its current position. Then, some opinions will be shown about the constant debate about whether grammar should be taught in the classroom or not. After trying to prove with a research that the decreasing status of grammar seems to take place only in theory but not in practice, it will be explained how a classroom must be ideally implemented following an integrative method.
