[EN] Theatre as educational tool was introduced to develop different abilities in students such as acting skills, expressivity, communicative competence or confidence, but many other gains have been found out. This paper aims to investigate how the integration of a theatre-based approach motivates students to learn English as a second language. This project puts a theatre-supported teaching unit into practice with a group of students in 1st Year of Compulsory Secondary Education characterized by socio-cultural difficulties and low interest towards language learning. The results of the investigation seem to be consistent: integrating theatre into the language classroom evidences students’ positive reaction and increasing motivation toward the foreign language, which, ultimately, involves a significant benefit to learn the language. Key words: motivation, theatre, language learning, ESL, secondary education.
