Áreas cognitivas y estructuras cerebrales afectadas en la Enfermedad de Alzheimer y su relación con la prevalencia de alteraciones de tipo emocional: Una revisión narrativa

Abstract

La Enfermedad del Alzheimer es el tipo más común de demencia y afecta a alrededor de 44 millones de personas en todo el mundo, principalmente a las personas mayores. Se trata de una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que produce la muerte de numerosas neuronas de forma progresiva, afectando a las múltiples estructuras cerebrales y a sus respectivas áreas del funcionamiento cognitivo asociadas. Este trabajo revisa numerosos artículos e investigaciones para concretar cuáles son los principales daños y déficits de estas áreas y estructuras y así, finalmente, indagar en cómo éstos repercuten en las emociones y conductas de los pacientes que la sufren. De esta forma, se pretende profundizar en la etiología y los daños que conllevan la Enfermedad del Alzheimer, para facilitar de manera indirecta la investigación hacia programas de rehabilitación neuropsicológica capaces de paliar los síntomas más característicos.Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting around 44 million people worldwide, focusing on the elderly. It is a neurodegenerative disease that causes the death of numerous neurons in a progressive way, affecting multiple brain structures and their respective associated areas of cognitive functioning. This work reviews numerous articles and researchs to specify what are the main damages and deficits in these areas and structures, finally, reviewing how these affect the emotions and behaviors of patients who suffer from it. In this way, the aim is to delve into the etiology and the damage that Alzheimer's disease entails, to indirectly facilitate research into neurorehabilitation programs capable of slowing down the most characteristic symptoms.
