El tema de la locura en Don Quijote y Hamlet. Breve estudio comparativo

Abstract

Este trabajo fin de Grado es un estudio sobre el tema de la locura en la literatura. He elegido dos protagonistas de la literatura inglesa y española: Hamlet y Don Quijote. La locura se trata respectivamente por Shakespeare y Cervantes en sus obras Hamlet y Don Quijote de la Mancha. Foucault considera que la locura tenía una fuerza primitiva de revelación. Dos locos de diferente carácter buscan los significados y los límites de la locura y la razón en sus propios relatos y ofrecen sus reflexiones y juicios del mundo y la vida. Los confines del saber y la locura se confundían sin solución de continuidad en el periodo moderno temprano. Este aspecto junto con las similitudes y diferencias que la locura presenta entre ambas obras es el que estudiamos hoy aquí.

This end of degree thesis is a study about the madness in the literature. I have chosen two protagonists from English literature and Spanish literature: Hamlet and Don Quixote. Shakespeare y Cervantes deal with the madness in their works Hamlet Prince of Denmark and The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote respectively. Foucault considered that the madness had a primitive power of revelation. Two madmen with different characters search for the meanings and the limits of madness and reason in their own narratives and offer their reflections and judgments about the world and life. The boundary between wisdom and madness got confused in the Early Modern Period. This aspect, together with the similitudes and differences between both works is what we are shall study here.
