Resumen
Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado (TFG) consiste en la presentación y estudio del libro The Muslim Next Door, escrito por Sumbul Ali-Karamali, y la traducción y análisis del capítulo sobre las prácticas islámicas cotidianas. Tiene por objetivo presentar la vivencia de un musulmán en un país occidental a través de un caso muy significativo (una mujer y Estados Unidos) y ofrecer una visión general de la religión islámica desde el punto de vista de una escritora musulmana estadounidense. Las conclusiones muestran la dificultad de aceptación por la sociedad estadounidense de personas diferentes y la confusión entre cultura y religión islámica. A pesar de ello, la autora consigue explicar los conceptos básicos del islam de forma clara y cercana para intentar que el lector abandone los prejuicios que giran en torno al islam.
This final dissertation project consists of the presentation and study of the book The Muslim Next Door, written by Sumbul Ali-Karamali, and the translation and analysis of the chapter about everyday Islamic practices. Its main objective is to present the experience of a Muslim in a western country by means of a very significant case (a woman and United States) and to offer a general vision of Islamic religion from the point of view of an American Muslim writer. The conclusions show the difficulty of acceptance by American society of different people and the confusion between culture and Islamic religion. In spite of that, the author manages to explain the basic Islamic concepts in a clear and close way, in order to try to get the reader to abandon the prejudices that revolve around Islam.
