Ponds”, “Artificial Ponds” y “Biodiversity”.
As a consequence of the disappearance of natural wetlands, the idea that irrigation ponds can act as an alternative refuge for biodiversity has become increasingly important. In this literature review, we reviewed the literature describing the potential of irrigation ponds as alternative aquatic habitats. This review has been carried out using databases such as Web of Science using the keywords "Irrigation Ponds", "Artificial Ponds" and "Biodiversity". Once this information has been analyzed, the aim is to determine whether irrigation ponds can be an alternative refuge for biodiversity in the face of the loss of natural wetlands, without neglecting the very purpose for which the ponds have been constructed.
