EL MOVIMIENTO CONTRA LA GUERRA DE VIETNAM: MANIFESTACIONES SOCIALES Y EXPRESIONES CULTURALES

Abstract

La implicación estadounidense en la Guerra de Vietnam desencadenaría una gran oleada de protestas internas que, desde 1965 hasta 1975, sacudirían a los Estados Unidos en una época que se ha denominada como la de mayor fractura social desde la Guerra de Secesión. Diferentes grupos de estudiantes y otros colectivos sociales, en plena lucha por los derechos civiles, se coordinarán para desarrollar el movimiento contra la Guerra de Vietnam, que acabaría manifestando el alto grado de descontento social por la intervención en el exterior. Junto a una variedad de expresiones culturales que denunciaban los horrores de la guerra y las actuaciones de su gobierno, el movimiento llegaría a cuestionar los valores morales y patrióticos de la gran superpotencia mundial, cuyo gobierno se vería azotado y desprestigiado por las protestas.

The US involvement in the Vietnam War would trigger a great wave of internal protests that, from 1965 to 1975, would shake the United States, in a time that has been referred as the greatest social fracture since the American Civil War. Different groups of students and others social collectives would coordinate to expand the movement against Vietnam War, which would end up expressing the high level of social discontent for the intervention abroad. Along with a variety of cultural expressions that denounced the horrors of war and his government´s actions, the movement would come to question the moral and patriotic values of the great world superpower, whose government would be scourged and discredited by the protests.
