[EN] Emerging viruses are new or recently identified agents which cause infectious diseases either previously undetected, or that had a low incidence which is increasing again quickly in a specific area. This can happend due to changes in pre-existing agents, climatic changes or globalization. The most relevant emerging viruses are transmitted by arthropod vectors, and the most of them are zoonotic viruses. Emerging viral diseases can lead to pandemics or epidemics sometimes, which have a strong social and economic impact. For that reason, this work will evaluate the biology and epidemiology of West Nile virus (WNV) and Bluetongue virus (BTV), since both viruses are currently circulating in Spain. The current risk for WNV in Spain is moderate/low and for BTV is moderate.
