La recuperación de Oriente en la pintura del siglo XIX

Abstract

En este trabajo se pretende abordar el género oriental en la pintura decimonónica, tratando a algunos de los pintores y viajeros que cultivaron dicho género y el cual tendría su máximo desarrollo en el siglo XIX, con el redescubrimiento de Egipto por parte de Napoleón y sus tropas, y el consecuente nacimiento del Romanticismo. Puesto que la idea de lo exótico, el desnudo femenino y los temas violentos, se estaba extendiendo por toda Europa, lo que llevaría a que muchos de los pintores y viajeros europeos, se animasen a viajar hasta lugares como Oriente. Despertando en muchos de ellos la curiosidad también por España debido al costumbrismo español y su vinculación con el pasado islámico.

In this essay, we are going to address, the oriental genre in nineteenth century painting, trying some of the painters and travelers who have cultivated this genre and which would have it is most development in the nineteenth century, with finding of Egypt by Napoleon and his army. And the consequent birth of Romanticism. Since the idea of the exotic, the female nude and violent topics, it was spreading throughout Europe, which will lead many European painters and travelers to travel to places like the East. Awakening in many of them the curiosity for Spain due to the Spanish custom and it is link with the Islamic past.
