THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING TO SUPPORT STUDENTS’ MENTAL HEALTH

Abstract

(ES) Este trabajo de Fin de Máster se centra en el estudio de las redes sociales y plataformas digitales para enseñar la lengua extranjera y, al mismo tiempo, favorecer el bienestar emocional de los estudiantes. Se analizan las metodologías CALL y MALL, así como las oportunidades y desafíos que representan las redes sociales en el ámbito educativo, haciendo hincapié en YouTube, Instagram y TikTok. lgualmente, se destaca el uso de las plataformas digitales, como Nearpod, Padlet y Quizziz. Durante este estudio, se enfatiza la relevancia de incorporar estas herramientas digitales de manera crítica evitando situaciones de estrés, ansiedad o bullying a los estudiantes y promoviendo un entorno educativo sano y seguro. Para unir la teoría a la práctica, se presenta una situación de aprendizaje con el objetivo de que los estudiantes no solo aprendan el idioma, sino que sean capaces de utilizar las redes sociales y plataformas digitales que disponen.

(EN) This Master's thesis focuses on studying social media and digital platforms to teach the foreign language and, simultaneously, promote students' emotional well-being. lt analyses CALL and MALL methodologies, as well as the opportunities and challenges that social networks present in the field of education, with an emphasis on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. lt also highlights the use of digital platforms such as Nearpod, Padlet and Quizziz. During this study, it emphasises the importance of incorporating these digital tools critically, avoiding situations that cause stress, anxiety, or bullying for students, and promoting a healthy and safe educational environment. To bridge theory with practical application, a learning situation is presented with the aim of enabling students not only to learn the language, but also to use social media and digital platforms available to them.
