Animal-assisted intervention has been used for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In recent years there has been a trend towards digitalisation that has opened up a field of research and intervention for the possible replacement of live animals with robotic animals. The main objective of this work is to analyse whether animal robot-assisted interventions can improve emotional, cognitive and behavioural abilities in people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A literature review has been carried out in which scientific articles published since 2009 have been selected and analysed. The results suggest that robot- assisted intervention has a positive effect on the emotional, cognitive and behavioural abilities of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. There are still limitations in robots, which leave the way open for the development of research related to animal robot-assisted interventions.
