Resumen
[ES] La diferenciación sexual en los anfibios puede verse alterada por la acción de xenobióticos, compuestos químicos externos al individuo que pueden actuar como disruptores endocrinos e inducir reversión sexual tanto en el sexo masculino como el femenino.
En este estudio se va a analizar el efecto del fadrozole en el desarrollo gonadal del modelo anfibio Xenopus tropicalis. Este xenobiótico es un inhibidor de la aromatasa (bloquea la producción de estrógenos) y, por tanto, estimula la producción de andrógenos (testosterona).
Para ello los individuos serán tratados durante todo el desarrollo larvario con distintas dosis de fadrozole (4 μg/L, 16 μg/L, 32 μg/L, 64 μg/L 100 μg/L). El tratamiento con este inhibidor de la ruta de la aromatasa no tiene efecto en los machos genotípicos. Sin embargo, da lugar a reversión sexual en hembras genotípicas en dosis a partir de 16 μg/L. La reversión sexual no se ha observado en el 100% de las hembras genotípicas, que además de testículos, pueden presentar ovarios normales, ovotestes o gónadas indiferenciadas.
[EN] Sexual differentiation in amphibians can be modified by xenobiotics action, external chemical compounds that are able to act as endocrine disruptors and induce sex reversal in both sexes (male and female). In this study we will analyse the effect of fadrozole during gonadal development of Xenopus tropicalis tadpoles. This xenobiotic is an aromatase inhibitor (blocks estrogen production) that stimulates androgens synthesis (testosterone). For this purpose tadpoles will be treated throughout development with different doses of fadrozole (4 μg/L, 16 μg/L, 32 μg/L, 64 μg/L 100 μg/L). The treatment with this aromatase inhibitor has no effect on genotypic males. However, it causes sex-reversal in genotypic females with doses of fadrozole of 16 μg/L or higher. Sex-reversal was not observed in 100% of females that in addition to testes, they can also develop normal ovaries, ovotestes or undifferentiated gonads.
