(EN) The detection of breast cancer in patients and the subsequent performance of mastectomy to treat this cancer, usually causes serious problems of acceptance of their own body. Mastectomy refers to the removal of the breast itself in order to increase survival in patients suffering from breast cancer. This surgical intervention, along with other complementary treatments, will mean that the body image of patients will be increasingly affected, reaching a situation in which they will not even recognize themselves and as a consequence, they may develop psychological problems such as lack of self-esteem and rejection of one's own body, among others. The present work consists of a bibliographic review where these issues will be addressed in order to have a more specific vision of this problem and the impact on people who suffer from this disease.
