el final de la pubertad como el periodo más sensible para el surgimiento de estos desordenes;
Eating disorders are complex and a single cause has yet to be identified. While the media and the family environment are commonly targeted for fault, it is clear that what signals the beginning of an eating disorder is the conscious and willing act of starting a diet in the hopes to transform one’s body image in order to feel accepted by oneself and by others. In the following bibliographic review it is intended, through an integral research, which covers the last 8 years, offering a clear vision of how this type of disorders affects the male population. The results of the analysis establish gender differences in the eating disorders, setting the end of puberty as the most sensitive period for the emergence of these disorders; in addition it is observed that, despite occurring more frequently in the female sex, the incidence in men has increased with the passage of time. Factors involved in the emergence of eating disorders include genetic, psychological and socio-familial determinants. The male body image is based on concepts such as virility and beauty ideals, as well as the satisfaction and dissatisfaction connected with certain parts of the body figure. Therefore, it is concluded that it is vital to investigate in depth about this problem, developing instruments to detect these disorders early, as well as meticulously investigate intervention and prevention protocols.
