[ES]Objetivos. Conocer si la terapia asistida con animales presenta beneficios en personas afectadas de demencia,
en caso afirmativo identificar esos beneficios. Identificar los posibles beneficios de la terapia asistida con
animales en enfermos de Alzheimer. Metodología. Se ha realizado una revisión narrativa de la literatura
existente en cuanto al tema planteado, realizando una búsqueda en las siguientes bases de datos nacionales e
internacionales: Cuiden Plus, Medline, Cinalh, Pubmed y Scopus. Los tipos de estudios que han fundamentado
este trabajo son generalmente artículos (observacionales, exploratorios, experimentales, intervencionistas,
ensayos clínicos y fenomenológicos) y revisiones bibliográficas. Resultados. Se han incluido un total de 20
artículos que cumplen con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión establecidos y se han obtenido como
resultados de esta revisión que la Terapia Asistida con Animales puede resultar beneficiosa en enfermos de
demencia y Alzheimer. Esta terapia podría mejorar la calidad de vida de estos pacientes, mejora de los
síntomas psicológicos y conductuales, promover la actividad física, resultados cognitivos y fomento del
recuerdo, así como mayor sociabilidad y alivio del sufrimiento de estos pacientes. Conclusiones. Se necesita
más investigación sobre la Terapia Asistida con Animales en estos enfermos y sobre todo desde el ámbito de la
enfermería.
[EN]Objetives. To know if animal assisted therapy has benefits in people suffering from dementia, if so, identify those benefits. Identify the possible benefits of animal assisted therapy in Alzheimer ́s patients. Methodology. A narrative review of the existing literature regarding the topic has been carried out, searching the following national and international databases: Cuiden Plus, Medline, Cinalh, Pubmed y Scopu. The types of studies that have supported this work are generally articles (observational, exploratory, experimental, interventional, clinical and phenomenological trials) and bibliographic reviews. Results. A total of 20 articles that meet the established inclusion and exclusion criteria have been included and the result of this review have shown that Animal Assisted Therapy can be beneficial in patients with dementia and Alzheimer ́s. This therapy could improve the quality of life of these patients, improve psychological and behavioral symptoms, promotephysical activity, cognitive results and promote memory, as well as greater sociability and relief of the suffering of these patients. Conclusions. More research is needed on Animal Assisted Therapy in these patients and especially from the nursing field.
