Resumen
En las últimas décadas, la Inteligencia Emocional (IE) ha generado un gran interés en el ámbito educativo, ya que se considera uno de los recursos personales más importantes para mejorar el rendimiento y el bienestar de alumnos y profesores. Uno de los modelos que más investigaciones ha suscitado es el de Mayer y Salovey (1997), que define la inteligencia emocional como la capacidad para percibir, evaluar y expresar con precisión las emociones, para acceder y/o generar sentimientos cuando estos facilitan el pensamiento, para comprender las emociones y para regularlas con el fin de promover el crecimiento emocional e intelectual. En el presente trabajo se revisan los principales modelos teóricos propuestos para explicar la IE, los distintos métodos de evaluación y los principales beneficios que tiene para los alumnos. Por último, se explican algunos de los programas de educación emocional más conocidos a nivel nacional e internacional.

One of the models that has attracted more research is that of Mayer and Salovey (1997), which defines EI as the ability to perceive, appraise and accurately express emotions, the ability to access and/or generate emotions when they facilitate thinking, the ability to understand emotions and the ability to regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth. This paper reviews the main theoretical models proposed to explain the IE, the different methods of assessment as well as the main benefits it has for students. Finally, are explained some of the most popular programmes emotional education at national and international level.
