El síndrome de Down, también conocido como trisomia 21, es un trastorno genético que afecta aproximadamente a uno de cada 700 nacimientos en todo el mundo. La enfermedad, caracterizada por la presencia de un cromosoma 21 extra, ha sido de interés e investigación por su impacto en el desarrollo fisico, cognitivo y emocional en las personas que lo padecen. Este trabajo explora en detalle los aspectos físicos, sociales y cognitivos del síndrome de Down, así como los avances en el diagnóstico, tratamiento y apoyo de las personas con dicha condición. Además, se estudian los desafios y oportunidades que enfrentan las personas con síndrome de Down, sus familias y su entorno social más cercano en nuestra sociedad, así como las iniciativas y políticas diseñadas para promover su plena inclusión y bienestar
Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder that affects approximately one in every 700 births worldwide. The condition, characterized by the presence of an extra chromosome 21, has been of interest and research for its impact on the physical, cognitive and emotional development of patients. This paper explores in detail the physical, social and cognitive aspects of Down syndrome, as well as advances in the diagnosis, treatment and support of people with the condition. In addition, we examine the challenges and opportunities faced by these individuals and their families in our society, as well as the initiatives and policies designed to promote their inclusion and well-being
