‘Friends’ as a tool for teaching intercultural competence in the EFL classroom: analysis and didactic proposal.

Resumen
Este trabajo está diseñado para una clase de 4º ESO con un nivel B1 de inglés. El trabajo está dividido en dos partes: la primera consiste en una introducción a los aspectos teóricos más importantes, como la cultura, la competencia intercultural y métodos pedagógicos para desarrollar la competencia intercultural en el aula. La segunda parte explica en detalle la elaboración de la unidad didáctica en el aula. Aquí, los alumnos trabajarán manera cooperativa y colaborativa a través de las siete sesiones donde tendrán que exponer un trabajo final en la última sesión. Los alumnos desarrollarán todas las destrezas comunicativas a la vez que aprenderán aspectos esenciales sobre la cultura del idioma que están estudiando. Durante las sesiones se tratarán temas como las distintas celebraciones culturales, las diferencias entre los valores americanos y los británicos, y la variedad de estereotipos a través de la serie americana ‘Friends’.
This dissertation is designed for a 4th of ESO class with a B1 level of English. It is divided into two parts: the first part consists of an introduction to the most important theoretical aspects such as culture, intercultural competence and pedagogical methods to develop intercultural competence in the classroom. The second part explains in detail the elaboration of the didactic unit in the classroom. Here, students will work cooperatively and collaboratively through the seven sessions where they will have to present a final project in the last session. Students will develop all the communicative skills while learning essential aspects of the culture of the language they are studying. The sessions will cover important topics such as the different cultural celebrations, the differences between American and British values, and the variety of stereotypes through the American series 'Friends'.
