Abstract

[ES] Es imposible concebir el mundo actual sin la figura de la ciudad de Roma. Formada por una agrupación de pueblos en el siglo VIII a.C., llego a dominar el mundo mediterráneo y la Europa occidental desde el siglo I hasta el V, convirtiéndose en un gran imperio. Un proceso largo con numerosos cambios sociales, políticos y económicos dio lugar a que Roma, fuese considerada la ciudad más importante del mundo. El crecimiento de una sociedad, la expansión del comercio o la enérgica actividad política, fueron aspectos clave en el devenir del mundo romano en aquella etapa y supuso un legado que perdura hasta nuestros días. Uno de los operadores comerciales más importantes es sin duda la figura del argentarius. Sus negocios, tales como el depósito irregular, el fenus o el receptum argentarii, son claves para entender el desarrollo económico de Roma.
