Telecollaboration in CLIL Contexts: eTwinning Projects

Abstract

[ES]El presente trabajo se centra en un tema de actualidad en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras: el uso de la telecolaboración en los contextos AICLE (Aprendizaje Integrado de Contenidos y Lenguas Extranjeras). Su principal objetivo es mostrar el gran potencial de las tecnologías de la comunicación en línea para apoyar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de contenidos e idiomas. Para lograr este objetivo, el trabajo se divide en dos partes. En la primera, se describen las principales características de la metodología AICLE y la telecolaboración, así como su integración en contextos AICLE. También se presenta eTwinning como herramienta para desarrollar proyectos colaborativos internacionales. La segunda parte corresponde al resumen de una selección de proyectos eTwinning a través de los cuales se identifica su impacto en alumnos, docentes y comunidad escolar en cuanto a resultados en contenido, idioma y motivación. El trabajo concluye señalando las principales conclusiones y recoge las limitaciones que se han de tener en cuenta en futuras líneas de investigación.

[EN]This dissertation focuses on an important topic in the current foreign language teaching scenario: the use of telecollaboration in CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) contexts. The chief aim of the dissertation is to canvass the great potential of online communication technologies to support the understanding of content and language acquisition, with telecollaboration as an innovative way of engaging students while promoting interaction and collaboration. In order to achieve this overarching goal, the dissertation is divided into two main sections. To begin with, it explains the key traits of CLIL methodology and telecollaboration and its implementation in CLIL contexts, including eTwinning as a tool to develop international collaborative projects. Then, an overview of eTwinning projects is presented to identify the impact of eTwinning on students, teachers and school community regarding content, language and motivation outcomes. The dissertation concludes by highlighting the main outcomes and provides self-reported limitations to take into account in future lines of research.
