La Orden de Santiago en la sierra de Segura

Abstract

(ES) La Orden de Santiago se crea a mediados del siglo XII con el objetivo principal de defender la cristiandad en el marco histórico de la reconquista. Luchar contra la invasión musulmana que desde el siglo VIII están en la península Ibérica. Para ello van a tomar como referencia las órdenes fundadas tras la primera cruzada como la del Temple. Los Santiaguistas se van a instalar en la sierra de Segura tras la reconquista cristiana del lugar y van a crear una encomienda, la de Segura con el fin de administrar y organizar el territorio. Estas órdenes religioso militares van a conseguir durante los siglos XIII Y XIV gran importancia económica y política, siendo decisivos en el devenir de los acontecimientos como guerras o intrigas. Sin embargo, con la llegada de los Reyes Católicos y el fin de la reconquista, dichas órdenes van a ir progresivamente integrándose en la corona, y perdiendo poder e influencia.

(EN) The Order of Santiago was created in the mid-twelfth century with the main objective of defending Christianity in the historical context of the reconquest. Fight against the Muslim invasion that since the eighth century are in the Iberian Peninsula. For this, they will take as a reference the orders founded after the first crusade, such as that of the Temple. The Santiaguistas were going to settle in the Sierra de Segura after the Christian reconquest of the place and they were going to create an encomienda, that of Segura, in order to administer and organize the territory. These religious-military orders will achieve great economic and political importance during the 13th and 14th centuries, being decisive in the future of events such as wars or intrigues. However, with the arrival of the Catholic Monarchs and the end of the reconquest, these orders will gradually become part of the crown, losing power and influence.
